Homemade: PICTIONARY

print & pattern blog - amber goodvin for studio ink

Pictionary is a great indoor board game to play!
But what if you want to know how to play Pictionary without the game, board, or rules?
Don’t worry, it’s very simple to make your own Homemade Pictionary game. What’s better is that you can personalize it anyway you want to!

Homemade Pictionary Setup:

1. You will need your family to play with. We
suggests 2 or more people per team. Make sure each team has equal amounts of players!

2. You will then also need a sketch pad and something to write or draw with.

3.This is a game where we’re going to keep time, so it would be wise to get a stopwatch or a normal watch and keep it close.

How to Play Homemade Pictionary

1. Create your categories and words
First, you will need to make a few note cards with the topics on that you’re going to play with. These cards will be drawn and teammates will have to guess what’s written on it.
Here are a few fun Pictionary category and word ideas: animals (like a dog or cat), objects (a chair or a dress), actions (running or jumping), challenge (something difficult like New York), or all play (a combination of all the categories).
Remember to Shuffle these cards properly before starting!

2. Set the scoring goal: Ten points seems to be a good scoring goal!

3. Get your drawing supplies and timer in place

4. Pick a team to go first
It always adds a little fun to roshambo (Rock-Paper-Scissors) to decide which team goes first, but you can decide however you want

5. Choose the first person to draw
The team who goes first will decide on a player to draw for the entire round.

6.Set the timer to 30 seconds
When the player is ready, the timer will be set to 30 seconds.

7.Start the round
Announce the category and then start the timer.
The player must then draw the word on the card on the sketch pad. The teammates must then work together in order to guess what the sketcher is drawing.

8.IMPORTANT: Follow the rules!
The person who is drawing may not make any sounds or make any hand gestures.
He or she may also not draw pictures with any numbers or letters!!

9.Once a team guesses the word correctly within 30 seconds, they receive a point. If they don’t guess correctly, they receive 0 points fo the round.

10. Just have fun!

Values: MUSIC

What song are you thankful for?

Music is a form of creative expression.

Music relaxes, energises, and motivates us.

Music and words: the sounds that drive great copy

1.ART PROJECT: painting with music and emotions

Can you take inspiration from a piece of music and use it as a spark to create art?

We are going to create our own art project in combination with different pieces of music. This lets us explore how music can influence our emotions and our mark!

Materials:
  • paper.
  • water colours, paints, colour pencils, markers, etc...
  • your choice of music – see below for suggestions.

Instructions:

1. Set out your materials. This is a good time to have a wide selection of art materials available so you can freely choose the materials that you want to use as you listen music.

2. Then play a piece of music and take inspiration from what you hear.

3. You might play one of your favourite songs, and draw or paint along to it.

4. Try some styles of music that you are less familiar with!
If you want you can also try different music on different days and see how it affects your mood and the art you feel like creating, as you listen.

There’s no right or wrong way to pair your music with your art!

Suggestions:

2. You can also listen to your favourite song and dance with your family!

Move your body and explore your emotions!
When you finish dancing, write 3 songs that make you feel happy on your gratitude journal.

Share your art or some videos dancing with us!
