Arts and Craft: POINTILLISM


Let’s make some art with dots today! 

Today we are going to show you how to make easy pointillism.

You can create all kinds of fun images, add shading and blend colors using just dots! 
You can make dot art with paint or markers or even finger prints. Grab some coloring pages or draw your own designs. 

We’re going to play with all kind of fun dots today!



What is Pointillism?


Pointillism is an art style using small patterns of colored dots to create an image. 
The technique was developed by artists Georges Seurat and Paul Signac in 1886 as their art was inspired by the impressionism movement.

Look at all those dots! 
This entire piece was created just using dots of color layered and overlapped to create color, shape and shade





Now it is your turn!

Materials you are going to need:

  • Paper or or printable pages
  • Watercolors
  • Q-tips and paint brush
  • Small container of water
Instructions:

  1. Use a paintbrush to apply water to all the paints. You need to make sure the paints are wet enough to pick up color with the cotton swabs. 
  2. Use the cotton swab to apply color to the paper. Use one swab for each color!
  3. If you want use these printable pages to practice placing color in specific areas!
